Which countries produce the healthiest protein bars?

The less sugar, the healthier the protein bar. We have checked which countries manufacture the healthiest protein bars.

12th France

A real sugar bomb is the French Isostar Powerplay: 41g sugar per 100g! So much sugar is quite unusual for a protein bar. Not even the energy bars have so much sugar. Some few grams more and we have the numbers classic chocolate bars have. Also the content of protein is below average for a protein bar: 25g per 100g. The last place in the protein bar review ranking.

11th Bulgaria

30g sugar per 100g has the Bulgarian Roobar.

10th Czech Republic

Czech protein bars from Nutrend are not known to be low in sugar. The average sugar content of a protein bar made in Czech Republic is 29,7g per 100g. Not really one of the best results in the protein bar review ranking.

9th Austria

20g per 100g is the average sugar content of a protein bar made in Austria. The Neoh bar from the Viennese manufacturer Alpha Republic improves the result, because the protein bars from the Styrian manufacturer Sportnahrung in Graz are by 28g per 100g  and higher quite big in sugar.  The Viennese Neoh Crossbar Raspberry impresses with only 5g sugar per 100g. We have also added the oat bar from Peeroton into the ranking. By just 6,4g protein per 100g, not a classic protein bar, but still interesting. Peeroton is also a Viennese manufacturer. Austrian protein bars are 9th in the protein bar review ranking.

8th Ireland

19,9g sugar content per 100g are in the Milky Way protein bar, which is manufactured by Mars in Dublin. By 37,6g protein content per 100g, this protein bar has quite a high content of protein. A great protein bar, but not one of the healthiest in the protein bar review ranking.

7th Germany

The German protein bars on this website have very different content of sugar. The protein bar from Germany with the lowest content of sugar has just 0,8g per 100g. The one with the highest 46g per 100g.  This one is also the one with highest sugar content on this website. No other protein bar which was tested and analyzed had so much sugar. It is this one: Weider Yoghurt Muesli Protein Bar. The averge sugar content of a protein bar from Germany is 18,07g per 100g. A real masterpiece of protein bar is the Weider 60% Protein Bar Salted Peanut Caramel. This bar has not just only 0,8g sugar per 100g, but also a very high content of protein, low fat and saturated fatty acids, and a very modest amount of carbohydrats.  Keeping all such features in mind, it turns out that a bar from Weider has the highest content of sugar and another one from Weider has the lowest content of sugar. This confirms the diversity of Weider protein bars.

6th Spain

Nature Valley protein bars are manufactured in Spain. The Spanish protein bar has a sugar content of 15,5g per 100g. But the calories are quite high. Also the total fat content is not so low having 30g per 100g, compared to other protein bars.

5th South Africa

South Africa is known for its tasty protein cookies from Madness Nutrition. Those cookies are soft and tender like tasty pieces of cakes. They impress through their high quality, extremly good taste, and a modest content of sugar. The average anount of sugar in such a protein cookie is 14,77g per 100g. Quite a good performance for having such a great taste!  That’s how South Africa made the 5th place in the protein bar review ranking.

4th Hungary

The protein bar named BioTechUSA Zero Bar Cappuccuino is manufactured in Hungary. This protein bars contain 0g of sugar! BioTechUSA Zero Bar Cappuccuino has a high content of protein and also the carbohydrats are quite low compared to other protein bars. But as there is also a protein bar called Go Protein which is also manufactured in Hungary, and which contains a lot of sugar, the average sugar content of a protein bar from Hungary is 14,4g per 100g. That’s why Hungarian protein bars only make the 4th place in the protein bar review ranking.

3rd United Kingdom

In general protein bars from the United Kingdom are very health-conscious. Almost every second British protein bar has a sugar content between 2g and 3,3g per 100g. The one with the highest content of sugar is Multipower Classic with 34g per 100g. The ones with the lowest content of sugar are the ones from Questbar by only 2g per 100g like: Questbar Cookies & Cream.  These Questbar products also have very low calories and saturated fatty acids. The average British protein bar has a  sugar content of 12,8g per 100g.

2nd USA

All protein bars from the USA have great data. The average protein bar from the USA has an average sugar content of 5,03g per 100g. The bar with the highest sugar content has 11,76g per 100g. Most of the protein bars from the USA contains between 1g and 3,33g sugar per 100g. Only one protein bar crosses the border of 10g. All others stay below 10g.

1st Sweden

The Swedish protein bars from Barebells are top in the world when it comes to a low sugar content. Also the high content of protein, and the low amount of calories are very good compared to other protein bars. The average Swedish protein bar contains only 3,03g sugar per 100g.
